Commonly asked questions about Brazilian Keratin Treatment​

How long do keratin treatments Last?

These treatments will typically last for about 3 months according to the manufacturer. They can last longer if you follow the proper maintenance routine.  In some cases clients may experience a permanent reduction of curl/wave on the treated hair.

Are "formaldehyde free" keratin treatments milder?

Yes, they do tend to be milder. Although they should last about the same length of time, that is 3 months. These treatments may not give you as much of a straightening effect as the keratins with Methyl Glycol.

Do I have to use special hair care products with a keratin treatment?

You must use the recommended shampoos that are lauryl sulfate and sodium chloride free for the treatment to last. In addition, If you use any of the homecare products such as, the Deep conditioning Masks and the leave-in creams and/or any of the additional products, the treatment will likely last longer.  Many of these products will continue to redeposit a milder form of keratin into the hair.

Do keratin treatments contain formaldehyde?

Keratin treatments do not directly contain formaldehyde. However, the formaldehyde gas is created during the blow-drying and flat ironing heating process.  Jade Salon of Atlanta uses a special high-powered Formaldehyde Filter during all these services.  It works very well at limiting the fumes. 

Do I have to blow dry my hair after a keratin treatment?

Yes, if you want to wear your hair straight, you will need to blow dry your hair and you may need to use a flat iron. But the treatment will cut down on your blow dry and styling significantly. The treatment also helps reduce frizz regardless of the humidity once the hair is blown dry.

Can I have highlights or color done on my hair with keratin treatments?

Yes, in fact color can most often be done the same day prior to the treatment. We offer our clients a discount to have any color service done the same day just prior to the keratin treatment. 

Do keratin treatments damage the hair?

Not generally. However, if your hair is already highly damaged, we would recommend one of the much milder choices of keratin options . *This product is recommended to be done every 3 months.  Doing these protein treatments too often may result in some damage.  .
